There are many reasons why people decide to have plastic surgery. Deformities play a huge role with some people. For example, for a person whose face has been disfigured in a fire, plastic surgery can make them feel normal again. The same is true for those born with what they consider defects such as a drooping eyelid, crooked nose, uneven breasts, and so on. In short, these people have surgery to make them feel more normal.

Another main demographic that is drawn to cosmetic surgery are people uncomfortable with age and therefore want to slow down the aging process. They  will seek plastic surgery because they believe that if they simply have the “right” work done, they can turn the clock back to more youthful times..

So there are many reasons that people choose to have plastic surgery. But cosmetic surgery, like any medical procedure, can be expensive. So who pays for it?

If the cosmetic surgery sought is related to an underlying medical issue, there’s a good chance that your insurance company will cover it. Otherwise, it’s likely that you’ll end up footing the bill yourself.

One option for those worried about plastic surgery prices is to apply for a cosmetic surgery loan. These loans will give you the option of repaying the loan in affordable monthly installments. If you’re not sure if you’ll be able to get a loan for your particular procedure, you may want to apply for a loan before you have the consultation with  your surgeon. If your credit is acceptable, many financial institutions will approve you for the loan without a surgeon’s consultation.

Some people in the U.S., finding the plastic surgery prices too high, opt to go to places where it’s more affordable like the Philippines. As a result, a growing trend is for people to take “surgery vacations” . These are vacations where you combine your love for globe trotting and traveling with your wish to have plastic surgery. There are many reasons why you might want to have cosmetic surgery done in another country. The primary reason is cost. Unlike in the past, today there are many countries, that you may have never considered in the past such as Mexico, Brazil, India, and others where you can get first rate medical care.  And at a cost 40, 50, 60 percent or more cheaper than in the U.S.

For example, India is a place where the plastic surgery prices are much lower than in the U.S.  In fact, in India, plastic surgery is a growth industry.

Of course there are potential problems as well. What do you do if, once you get back home, you find that there was a problem. Do you have to make a return trip back to the foreign country? In the end, for minor surgeries it may not be a big deal. But for major cosmetic procedures, it’s probably safer to have it done close to home where your doctors can immediately be on top of any problems.
