Extreme Makeover

The decision to undergo cosmetic surgery should never be taken lightly; so you should be absolutely confidant in your choice to go under the knife. Always do your research before committing to a cosmetic surgeon; make sure they come highly recommended. And don’t forget: any cosmetic procedure is considered surgery and comes with a certain amount of risk. This guide will walk you through some of the more popular cosmetic procedures; always consult your surgeon for more in depth information.

Breast Augmentation

This procedure will enhance the size of the breasts by using inflatable saline implants. The surgery generally takes about one to two hours to complete under either local anesthetic with sedation or general anesthetic. Breast augmentation is usually an outpatient procedure.

Side Effects: Soreness, swelling, changes in nipple sensation, and bruising. Breasts are usually sensitive for a few weeks.

Surgery Risks

• Implant malfunction that may require removal or replacement of the implants. These include deflation, formation of scar tissue around the implant, bleeding, and infections.

• Some women may experience an increase or decrease in breast sensitivity.

Recovery: After the surgery you can expect to be back at work in a few days. Breasts will be tender for up to four weeks. The scars will begin to fade after several months to a year.

Face Lift

A face lift will improve sagging facial skin, jowls, and loose neck skin, by removing excess fat and tightening the muscles. This procedure is most often performed on men and women over 40. The surgery takes several hours under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Generally, this is an outpatient procedure.

Side Effects: Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, and tenderness of the skin. Skin may feel tight and dry. Men who undergo this surgery will have to shave behind their ears, as the beard growing skin will have been repositioned there.

Risks

• Damage to the nerves that control facial muscles or feeling. This is usually temporary, but it could be permanent.

• Infection.

• Bleeding.

• Scarring.

• Change in hairline.

Recovery: You can expect to go back to work in 10 to 14 days. Bruising will last up to three weeks; avoid strenuous activity for two or more weeks.

Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)

This surgery will reshape the nose by either reducing the size or increasing it. Rhinoplasty involves removing humps, changing the shape of the tip or bridge, narrowing nostrils, and changing the noses position. Some nose jobs are performed for medical reasons to help relieve breathing problems. Your plastic surgeon will assess your needs and design your procedure accordingly. The actual procedure takes anywhere from one to two hours, sometimes longer. You will be put under local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia. Rhinoplasty is usually an outpatient procedure.

Side Effects: Swelling, bruising, and headaches. There may also be some bleeding and stiffness.

Risks

• Infection.

• Burst blood vessels that could result in permanent red spots.

• There is a chance that the surgery won’t provide enough improvement and additional surgery may be required.

Recovery: You can be back at work as early as one to two weeks. Avoid overly strenuous activities for three weeks. You should avoid hitting your nose for eight weeks. Note: it may take up to a year or more before the final appearance is evident.

What to Expect Before and After a Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty, as you already may know, is a surgical procedure in which a patient’s nose is reshaped. Just as every face is unique, every rhinoplasty is also different. Some patients seek rhinoplasty in order to change the size or shape of their noses. Other people choose to undergo rhinoplasty surgery in order to repair their noses after accidents, or in order to improve the irrespiratory capabilities. A deviated septum, for example, can make it quite difficult to breathe properly. Rhinoplasty can remedy such a problem.

Before Your Rhinoplasty

Before the day of your rhinoplasty, you will have at least one in-depth consultation with your plastic surgeon. During this consultation, your surgeon will closely analyze the shape and structure of your nose. Be sure to be completely candid during this consultation, sharing all pertinent medical history with your surgeon. Also, make sure to share your goals regarding surgery. It is important for you to be on the same page with your doctor. Remember, the more specific you are during this consultation, the better your doctor will understand your intentions for your nose. At this time, your surgeon will give you important information about what you can realistically expect from the surgery, how long it will take to heal and what your responsibilities as a patient will be.

After Your Rhinoplasty

Most surgeries create at least a mild amount of discomfort. Rhinoplasty can be particularly uncomfortable, especially if your surgeon has to work with the bones in your nose and face. In the first day after your surgery, you will experience puffiness in your face, an ache in the area surrounding your nose and possible a headache. Your doctor should prescribe pain medication to help you through this pain. Be sure to spend the first day after your surgery relaxing in bed with your head propped up.

In the two to three days following your surgery, the bruising and swelling around your eyes will increase. Be sure to use cold compresses to reduce these effects. While the pain will be minimized, you will literally look like you have been beaten about the face. You may also bleed during this time period and feel stuffy. It is important, however, not to blow your nose during the first week as you may damage the inside of your healing nose.

Depending on the type of rhinoplasty that you receive, you may have surgical packing in your nose as well as stitches, and possibly splints. Within two weeks these will likely be removed and the bruising should be gone. You might, however, still have some minor swelling. Very subtle swelling may remain around your nose and eyes for a number of months after your surgery. While this will most likely be evident to you, it will probably be unnoticeable to almost everyone else.

For the weeks and months following your surgery, be sure to follow your doctor’s orders regarding the kinds of physical activities in which you can engage. Be sure to stay away from any activities that could compromise the results that you achieved through your rhinoplasty.

Insurance and Rhinoplasty Cost

Depending on the type of rhinoplasty you get and your reasons for having the procedure, your insurance company may cover some or all of the cost.

Older Women Weight Loss Dilemmas

One of the best ways to ensure you will not have to compromise between saving your butt or face is to maintain an appropriate weight throughout all your lifetime. Exercise and eat right then when old age comes around there won’t be these sudden decisions of which to save - your butt or your face. In this article let us take a glance at some of the more comical sides of the equation.

There is an old cliché that unfortunately is true. When it comes to losing weight, an older woman will have to choose between saving “her butt or her face.” This refers to the idea that if you lose too much weight your face may look more haggard and wrinkles may be emphasized. You could get rid of a double chin and end up with a flapping turkey neck instead.

Jowls that have lost their pads of fat could hang and gaunter cheekbones could create a ghoulish or wolfish look on an older face. Eyes could appear more sunken and the skin could lose its dewy sense of tautness. Often older faces that have lost too much weight appear cadaverous or as if they are continually remembering the pain part of another old expression “no pain no gain.”

The truth is that a fatter face often looks much younger than a gaunt face. The extra fat pockets plump out hollows in just the right places creating a youthful appearance.
Wrinkles and expression lines such as crow’s feet are simply less noticeable and often the skin texture on a plumper woman is simply smoother and healthier looking.

On the other hand, if you keep enough weight on you could end up with a rear end or thighs that are much larger than you originally desired. Notice that many older women with beautiful line free visages and gorgeous complexions usually tend to be apple shaped or pear shaped in their lower body.

So are there any remedies for this all too familiar paradox? Do you really have to sacrifice your looks for a smaller rear end? Does it really have to be one or the other?

Unfortunately the older you are the more inescapable this sordid truth is. You either settle for being slightly heavier or you can spend thousands of dollars on anti -aging serums and plastic surgery to get rid of excess skin and wrinkles caused by the weight loss. Or you can opt to have plumper, less lined features and spend a ton of money getting liposuction on your tummy, thighs and rear end.

If you have a bit of “booty” you are right with the in group as has been demonstrated by sexy superstars such as Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez. Keep in mind that there are also many celebrities who buy padding to insert into their underwear to keep their backsides looking plump and well rounded. This seems so unnecessary when all these “stick insects with mascara” (as Bridget Jones called them) could easily achieve this by consuming a few good meals. If you want to be “cool” you will go for having a slightly bigger butt and a younger face.

Although being thinner is healthier then being too fat, the best compromise is to be the healthiest weight for your age and body shape. Keep in mind too that the people that look the youngest, no matter what their weight, are those that are the happiest and not stressed out by things like calorie restricted diets, painful plastic surgery or even caring too much what other people think. Get plenty of rest and drink plenty of water daily. These are two of the most important skin and beauty products you can apply to yourself. Don’t abuse your body with drugs and alcohol. When old age comes around you will be so glad you practice these simple health tips and the truth of whether or not you have taken care of yourself will show in both your face and your “booty.”

Sagging Cheeks Lift Using Facial Exercise

How many times did you stand in front of your mirror this week only to gently lift the sides of your face up and back into the hairline?  This futile action may have temporarily “lifted” your appearance but if you want to have lasting results, those sagging cheek muscles need a rescue regime and they need it now.

Full, beautiful cheeks are vital to a youthful face.  Nasal labial folds develop when the mid face begins to sag; facial muscles droop and pool into other muscles and muscle groups creating the look of old.

Sagging cheeks portray a clear indication that the muscles in the face no longer adequately support the skin; that downward slide elongates your face in subtle ways.  At first you may notice fine lines developing and a slight shift in your facial appearance may be evident only to you; but you know what is happening, don’t you?  This is aging and it won’t stop ever.

The upper and lower face muscles weave over and under each other; one end attaches to bone in the skull and the other muscle end attaches either to another muscle or directly into the skin.  As these muscles soften from disuse, the fullness of your face is affected as jowls, pouches and sagging cheeks develop.

Atrophied, softened muscles drag down your skin to form the look of old we dread.  It isn’t so funny when you see Great Aunt Hilda’s chin developing below your jaw.  Hereditary or not, sagging cheeks, double chins and more quickly add up to wearing a matronly face.

Men and women worldwide share the desire to maintain a youthful face.  In our youth-obsessed society, wrong or right, a beautiful or handsome face often seems to enjoy special attention and more interest but youthfulness can wane.

There was a time that anti-aging options were limited to mostly skin care lotions and potions, facials, lasers, injections and surgery.

Now that consumers are savvy to the fact that these temporary modalities require repeated maintenance updates and refreshment, more and more patients realize that their hard earned money is not well spent.  After all, who wants to frequently inject costly, synthetic chemicals and fillers that carry dire warnings and partake in dangerous surgical alterations when it is well-known that these measures attribute to aging?

In addition to wrecking your skin there is evidence that many adverse reactions occur in the weeks and months following invasive procedures such as injections and surgeries.

These potential complications can include allergic reactions, swelling, inflammatory reactions that result in nodule formation, cold sores, arthritis and other immune challenges, infection, bruising, bleeding, blisters, cysts, lumps, bumps, numbness and migration issues.

Remember, you may not see complications immediately but they can rear their ugly head at any time after the initial procedure has been completed.

Buying risky injections and submitting to dicey surgeries can challenge your senses when you realize that you no longer recognize the face reflected in your mirror.

Even in the best case scenarios, when everything goes perfectly, eventually you will be faced with ‘revision decisions’ because it won’t be long until you recognize the subtle shifting and you are faced with more injections and surgery.

Do you feel like a gerbil yet?

What if plastic surgery and injections were obsolete?

How surprised would you be to learn that sagging cheeks, droopy necks, jowls and pouches do not require surgical intervention or fillers that plump and injections that paralyze?

There is a way to tighten your face and lift your features using specialized contouring and isometric contractions that require only a few minutes of your time with results that rival the face you loved ten to fifteen years ago.

Here’s how this happens:  Thumbs and fingers in white cotton exercise gloves are easily manipulated into movements, think resistance and contraction, that work to sculpt your facial muscles.

A droopy face indicates that muscles are shifting and pooling into other muscles and muscle groups; when certain specific isometric exercise contractions are used, muscles “awaken” and begin to return to their more youthful shape.  The skin is revitalized as beneficial nutrients via oxygenated blood are unleashed, the muscles plump up and the face looks younger.

Repositioning the underlying muscles means you can wear a younger looking face.  Manipulating lax facial muscles, then seeing and feeling them respond, will dramatically enhance your good looks and elevate your confidence level.

Slow yet deliberate exercise movements are taught first for the heaviest muscles in the face and neck.  Week One teaches you how to successfully contract the upper cheek and the upper eye muscles.  These two actions will noticeably improve the smoothness of your skin while lifting the cheeks, forehead and upper eyes.  These two exercises require thirty-five seconds each.

You don’t have to go anywhere or buy special equipment – these treatments are done in the privacy of your home.

Week Two begins by performing the two exercises learned in Week One and then adding two new actions that address the lower cheeks and lower mouth – firming and lifting the jowls and pouches.  Performing these four exercises requires only seconds of your time.  From the beginning your face will feel more toned and lifted and soon your reflection in the mirror will reveal changes.

Over the next seven weeks you will teach yourself the simple yet easy steps to keep your face looking toned and younger.  Neck, double chin, the dreaded wattle, under eyes, upper lips, crow’s feet and more can be enhanced when you realize that the power of looking younger is in your hands.

Mindful, proactive, safe, sane and natural methods will assure that you age spectacularly.  Smiling never felt so good!  And, your cheeks?  Wowee Zowee!

Facelifts - Finding the Right Procedure

Face lift technology has come a long way in the last 30 years. The plastic surgeries performed in the early ’80s seem primitive by today’s standards. Now, there are a variety of facelift procedures for every type of person; for those who want complete rearrangement, to those who want a little bit of rejuvenation.

The three major operations are the deep plane, mid face and thread lifts.

The deep plane surgery is the most dramatic type of procedure, and it works on the lowest layer of facial tissue. The basic idea is that it tightens the tissue under your skin to get rid of wrinkles and sags.

Deep plane surgery is ideal for older patients who want to get rid of the ravages of aging and have a younger facial appearance. You can focus on different areas, but most often doctors recommend the cheeks, chin, jaws and the area between the nose and mouth where you see a lot of wrinkles as you get older.

Although it’s the deepest and most dramatic type of surgery, the results usually look very natural. This is because it involves rearranging the deep tissue, and the outer layers of skin and tissue then fit over the changes naturally. You can almost never tell that someone has had this type of operation.

The results will last for about 10 years or more. After that time, there may be noticeable changes in the facial tissue as it sags and wrinkles again. At that time, it may be desirable to get a second operation, but the second operation is never as invasive as the first.

The mid face lift is a new trend in plastic surgery that is good for those between the ages of 30 and 50. This surgery is a great improvement over older techniques that tended to look fake and plastic.

As opposed to the old technique, which tightened the facial tissue at the ears, the mid facelift goes deeper, tightening and readjusting the tissue in the middle area of the face. In particular, the operation focuses on the area from the sides of the eyes to the top of the mouth, and it tightens the deep tissue so that it looks more natural.

The thread lift is a more surface operation. The top layer of skin is adjusted slightly to give you a slightly rejuvenated look. The change is subtle and so natural it is often impossible to tell.

It has often been called the “lunchtime lift.” It actually takes a little bit longer, but it is called this because it is a relatively short operation, usually taking only an hour. It is sometimes combined with other techniques to make the overall changes you want to see.

It is also used sometimes as a second facelift. If you’ve had a face lift in the last 10 years or so and the age is starting to show, you can usually get away with this simpler procedure.

If you are thinking about getting a plastic surgery, there are lots of options available to choose from. Talk to your doctor about what will work best for you.

Nose Job Capital of the World: Beverly Hills or Tehran

Fashion conscious women prefer to spend their money in plastic surgery and proudly show it off.  They want smaller noses to look almost like Barbie. “You guessed wrong! I am not talking about Beverly Hills but rather Iran.” Dr Payman Simoni, a Beverly Hills rhinoplasty specialist, explains. With Over 100,000 plastic surgery per year Iran has been the rhinoplasty capital of the world.

A woman’s beauty is an essential component of Iranian culture. ”Kill me, but make me beautiful,” one Iranian proverb goes. ”The beautiful face soothes the tired heart and opens the closed door,” goes another.   However the Islamic rulers of Iran have been limiting the display of female beauty by enforcing Islamic dress code. Iran’s strict Islamic dress code has backfired. Where the women face is the only visible part of the body it is understandable that unsightly nose can take a center attention. Influenced by flock of western culture through internet and satellites, Hollywood noses are the Persian women’s dream.   The desire among lovely Persian women to look like Snow White is strange but it is a direct reaction to authority’s attempts to make them look like bats and crows.

There have reportedly been more nose jobs in Iran recently than in any other country in the world.  Persian women are flocking plastic surgery offices like nowhere else in the world.  Right after leaving Tehran’s plastic surgeons’ operating rooms, women rush to their favourite coffee shops to show off a new bandaged badge-of-honour noses. Some even wear fake bandages just for the show off. Now It’s becoming increasingly common for Iranian men to have cosmetic surgery too.

Business has been wonderful for hundreds of doctors specializing in nose and other facial surgeries. Of even greater concern are the rising instances of facial disfigurement resulting from operations carried out by unqualified surgeons. As a result, Iran’s justice ministry has set up a special office for medical malpractice cases. Between 2001 and 2004, it dealt with 2,715 cases arising from cosmetic surgery, leading to 459 doctors receiving various forms of written rebuke and 21 being suspended for up to four years.

In Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, one of the largest communities of Iranian outside Iran, nose job still remains one of the most requested surgeries by Persian women. Dr Simoni, a Beverly Hills facial plastic surgeon, explains. In United state too non qualified surgeons are allowed to perform rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is by far the most difficult of all the plastic surgeries thus Dr Simoni recommends board certified facial plastic surgeons.
