Cosmetic Surgery – Can You be Too Young
For many the teenage years can be traumatising to say the least and, in a day and age when image is everything, some teens are turning to cosmetic surgery in the hope that they will be able to get back their sense of self esteem.
For some the nose can be the area that stands out, being perceived as too big, or inversely, too small. Some may feel that their nose is crooked or hooked, whatever the reason though cosmetic surgery is presenting itself as an option
Many thousands of teenagers are turning to cosmetic surgery each and every year, the majority of them female, the most popular ops being nose surgery, breast augmentation, liposuction and even ear reshaping.
Teenagers face tremendous pressure to look good by being bombarded with images of perfect celebrities in the magazines they read and on the TV programs and films they watch.
Of course as we grow older we grow less inclined to worry about our appearance in such superficial aspects, this doesn’t mean we don’t worry about aging though and this is one of the main reasons people opt for cosmetic surgery.
The worrying thing is that our bodies and skeletal structure may not be fully developed until we are between 14-16 and for some a little older. Also in some women the breasts may still be developing at the age 16-18. The majority of ethical surgeons and practices will perform a consultation and address this issue and also look for any psychological condition such as body dysmorphic disorder. They will also usually explain the procedure and the effect this physical change can have on a person to ensure that the patient is fully aware of the outcome.
Many surgeons argue that at this young age these surgical solutions can help to improve self esteem and improve the quality of a person’s life. It is worth remembering that changing something about your appearance may make you feel a little more positive about yourself but may not be the life changing experience you are expecting it to be. Therefore you should always enter into any cosmetic surgery procedure having carefully examined all of the facts for some time. If you are lucky enough to find a very ethical and honest surgeon the consultation process should fully equip you with enough details to make an informed decision and the surgeon may even turn you away if they don’t think your reasons for undergoing surgery are justifiable.
If you are considering cosmetic surgery procedures in the UK such as nose surgery you should seek an accredited surgeon who is registered with BAPRAS or BAAPS to ensure this plastic surgery runs smoothly.

Cosmetic surgery, how young is too young for it?
A lot of parents are letting their teens get it but, what age is too young.

Under 40 is too young unless it’s reconstructive for health reasons. If you’re doing it totally for vanity reasons under 40 then you need your head examined.

I’d say in your late 20’s is when you should start if at all, I know aton of people would disagree with me but I mean, you’re so young why would you need it? And once you get started you have to go in and get fixes, and all that, just why would you want to even get into that so young..

I think the only age that is too young is an age when a person’s future growth could affect the surgery and create problems later in life. That’s a topic to discuss with your doctor; he/she will know what to avoid when it comes to young patients.
As for maturity - I think that anyone who is unhappy enough with a physical feature to be willing to go under the knife to correct it is old enough to have it, presuming good health and the financial ability to have the procedure. I see no reason to live with a feature/trait that makes you feel bad about yourself if you have the ability to correct it.

More detail please. There are all kinds of cosmetic surgeries. If you mean a boob job… my personal opinion …. I would have my daughter wait until she was an adult. By then she might be mature enough to realize she don’t need a boob job. And that real people (men and women) accept her for what and who she is.

it depends on what kind of cosmetic surgery
typically if you have a visible scar (like on your face) or something like that then i’d think its alright to have surgery during ur teen years but if you want something like a boob job then i think you should at least be in your 30’s

That is disgusting.
Teen girls are some of the most under confident people on the face of the earth. And by giving them surgery to "correct" what they think is wrong with them, you’re just re-enforcing the idea that "You’re not pretty enough unless you look like these starved airbrushed cokeheads in magazines."
Frankly, I think ANY age is too young, unless it’s reconstructive, like fixing battered faces from car accidents, or major scars and burn wounds. Things like that dramatically improve the life of the patient, not just mentally but physically. Those sort of injuries can limit motion and ability.
What ever happened to individuality?

What age is too young? Personally and professionally, I think that the age 75 is too young.

Some children get their ears pinned back so they don’t get teased - it’s the choice of the parents and child. Some older teens get their noses done.
Anything goes as long as you are mature and want it, have the basic health status to get through it safely and of course, the money. Cosmetic surgeons are supposed to assess the emotional and mental health of their patients to ensure they are good candidates for the surgery. This also protects them from lawsuits from people that would always be unhappy with the outcome no matter what.
Boob jobs for teens - forget it. Those things have to be maintained about every 10 yrs throughout life. After birth, sometimes the body changes and you are more well-endowed anyway.
There are always risks of infection and anesthesia, or a poor outcome. Surgery should be taken very seriously.

Depends on the procedure. There are some cosmetic surgeries that are necissary for younger people. Hemaphrodites often undergo the experience when they are younger so they don’t feel awkward. Or birth defects like webbed-feet, hairlips, what have you. I would even consider circumcision a plastic surgery. Anything like that i think is acceptable for a child to undergo even though I support the whole "being yourself philosophy".
The other stuff I say you should only undergo if you are 18 or older. mainly because then you’ll be considered an adult, you can’t blame anyone else, and by then some of the awkwardness will have faided away…I mean everyone I know in the 8th grade either had huge boobs, or they thought they were too tiny. Imagine the havoc that would have insued if a bunch of 13 year olds ran to get a boob job. Nose jobs are in the medium. Mainly because if you fix a…deviated septom, you are doing it all for appearance aside from the awkward breathing.
No matter what the surgery, I think that you should wait until the risks are the lowest.
Hope I helped!

MoneyStar83,
Plastic surgery is not a vitamin. This is not something to take on a light note…once you start cutting you play with the "natural" weaving of your body’s cells.
If you have a problems, then surgery is a yes. If you have a feature that you hate, then take your time to think about it, if you want surgery to look like Jessica Simpson…then think about it carefully.
I’d say that before 18, unless it’s a medical condition, people should refrain from surgery.

Cosmetic surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

I’m sorry, but age wise, if you are financially able to get it done out of your own pocket..than that’s my answer. Most girls I know around their late teens early 20’s get cosmetic surgery for like birthday gifts, graduation, christmas present..etc.. If you are going to get it done that early like girls who are 18, atleast you are "halfway" legal for any consequences whether health risks, complications or death…. soo that’s what I think.
